Simultaneous Placement and Sizing of Distributed Generation Units and Shunt Capacitors on Radial Distribution Systems Using Cuckoo Search Algorithm

This paper presents a Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm-based methodology for simultaneous optimal placement and sizing of Shunt Capacitors (SCs) Distributed Generations (DGs) together in radial distribution systems. The objectives the work are to minimize real power reactive losses while maximizing voltage stability index network subjected equality inequality constraints. Different operational test cases considered namely installation SCs only, DGs before DGs, SCs, at one time. proposed method has been demonstrated on standard IEEE 33-bus practical Ayepe 34-bus highest percentage loss reduction 94.4% other substantial benefits obtained when optimally installed simultaneously. Simulated results from technique compared with well-known optimization algorithms found be more effective.
